How does hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy works by interacting directly with your subconscious mind to create lasting change. Hypnosis is a trance -like state and everyone has the ability to enter into a trance. Every day, people slip into natural trance states when they become absorbed in watching television, or reading a book, using computers or even driving. Hypnotherapy works by introducing people to a state of deep relaxation that then gives access to the subconscious mind. Here all your memories, habits and fears are stored making you the person you are today, but it also is the reservoir of your mind’s untapped resources. In hypnosis we can free these resources and make redundant the old patterns which were holding you back. Your therapist will use his voice to induce you into the state of hypnosis. You are unlikely to feel hypnotised as such. You will probably experience a feeling of mental and physical relaxation and your memory will be enhanced. When you are in hypnosis the critical part of your conscious mind is dampened (that part of you that is so good at telling you what you can’t do!), so your subconscious mind is able to receive and act upon life enhancing suggestions.
Commonly asked questions
What is hypnosis?
A state of relaxation and concentration at one with a state of heightened awareness induced by suggestion. It is a non-addictive power for good and is a natural manifestation of the mind at work.
Are there some people who cannot be hypnotised?
Everyone who wants to be hypnotised can be hypnotised, although the depth of trance will vary with each person.
Could I be influenced to do anything against my will or nature?
You cannot be made to do anything against your basic belief system while in hypnosis. You can come out of hypnosis at any time by simply opening your eyes. Therefore YOU are always in charge.
Shall I be aware of what is happening?
Yes. Although you will feel extremely relaxed you will be fully aware of everything. You may end a trance at any time by opening your eyes. You cannot get stuck in trance. You may fall asleep while in trance, but when you awaken, you will be out of trance.
The Therapy
There are two entirely different treatments using Conscious hypnosis.
Suggestion Therapy
Which is used for simpler problems such as smoking, nail-biting, exam nerves, slimming, relaxation, confidence boosting, public speaking etc., and which require only 1-3 sessions. Clients are given a free personalised CD for further reinforcement at home.
Analytical Therapy
Which is used to discover CAUSES of psychological problems. Hypno-analysis can be summarised briefly as the doctrine of cause and effect, every effect (the symptom) must have a cause. Hypno-analysis reveals that cause and provides a safe and therapeutic opportunity to release it. A complete and lasting release can very often be obtained by finding and removing originating causes – as opposed to merely control of symptoms.

A session usually lasts about an hour.

Sessions can take place face to face in my studio in South Belfast or on the phone.

conversation with someone who has only your best interests in mind.

This very popular workshop provides a holistic approach to managing stress and increasing health and well-being, through a wide variety of effective mind/body strategies.

It is widely recognised that stress is a major contributing factor to poor health, absenteeism, reduced productivity and low morale. These courses aim to make a significant contribution to the promotion of long-term health and well-being.

These courses have been designed to meet the needs of employees within the corporate, private, statutory and voluntary sectors. However, they are also relevant to all people who are interested in enhancing the quality of their lives.
Course Content
Food for Health
The link between poor diet and stress is not always appreciated. This session will enable participants to learn about health-giving and health-stealing foods. They will be empowered to make dietary changes and to use detoxifying techniques that will promote higher energy and stress resilience.
Relaxation Techniques
In this segment participants will learn, breathing practices and relaxation techniques in order to begin to experience more ease, calmness and focus in their lives.
Life-work Balance
Knowing what is important in your life is vital in determining your life/work balance. Participants will identify their life/work values and complete their personal “Wheel of Life” to determine areas of imbalance.
Emotional Well-being
Suppressing, denying or inappropriately expressing emotions leads to ill health and needless problems in personal and professional lives. We teach a simple technique for managing emotions which will bring a sense of clarity, purpose and energy.
Creative Use of Mind
Our mind is a tool which we can use to support us or inhibit us. We will teach how to recognise thinking patterns and limiting beliefs in order to make positive changes and achieve desired outcomes

This workshop is based on Louise Hay’s best selling book; “You Can Heal Your Life” which has helped people all over the world to make positive changes in their lives.
